FCC allows Verizon-Alltel merger

Despite opposition from some groups, the Federal Communications Commission unanimously gave a conditional clearance to Verizon, the country's second wireless producer, to purchase Alltel. This will instantly make Verizon the largest wireless producer in the country, overtaking AT&T.

Verizon-Alltel Merger allowed by Justice Department

The largest telecommunication merger in the country is a step closer to fulfillment after the Justice Department allowed the deal.

The merger between Verizon, the country's second largest provider, and Alltel, the fifth largest provider, will result into the country's largest wireless services company with 83.8 million subscriber, beating the largest provider today, AT&T, which has 74.9 million subscribers.
