FCC allows Verizon-Alltel merger

By Website Introductions at 11/06/08 20:59

Despite opposition from some groups, the Federal Communications Commission unanimously gave a conditional clearance to Verizon, the country's second wireless producer, to purchase Alltel. This will instantly make Verizon the largest wireless producer in the country, overtaking AT&T.

The Commission also allowed a deal between Sprint Nextel Corp. and Clearwire Corp. More details about the deal and merger here at Bloomberg.
